Marvel Studios has certainly come a long way since their debut in 2008. I think it’s safe to say, though, that Thor is their weakest series by far. The first film was fun, I remember seeing it once on my own then again with my mom. It was fine for what it was doing. The second film is where they really took a misstep. The Dark World was a bit of a mess, thus cementing itself even more as the weakest film series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe that’s why Patty Jenkins walked away from it.
But they’ve got a chance to redeem themselves now. Marvel just released the teaser trailer for the third film, Ragnarok. The first thing you’re definitely going to notice in this teaser is the music. They decided to go with Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” which ends up working out pretty nicely. But it screams Guardians of the Galaxy to me. Is that a good thing? Well, that first Guardians film was a big success, so probably. In any case, it certainly gives the trailer a lot of energy. And we’re introduced to Hela by seeing her crush Thor’s hammer. What an entrance.
It already looks as if Taika Waititi may have knocked this one out of the park. It looks better than the previous two Thor films, that is for damn sure. But we will have to wait and see more footage, as well as the movie, to know for sure. Adding the Hulk to the film was probably a very, very smart decision. Probably? Okay, it definitely was. Because now you’ll certainly be getting more butts in the seats. And it is a nice change of pace in general for the series, and the character. They found a way to do Planet Hulk without literally having to do it. This movie should be huge. It’s a good trailer.
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
Thor: Ragnarok is set to hit theaters on November 3.
